Prayer of Psalms in the Season of Lent

Jesus Christ, who was not a stranger to hardship, sickness, or suffering, and yet was the completely innocent and righteous one, prays in the Psalms through the mouth of his church.

Easter is not far away. And this means that the season of Lent begins. The Church has deliberately devoted itself to fasting and prayer during this time in order to prepare in a special way for Good Friday and Easter.

For this year’s Season of Lent, we want to invite you to pray the Psalms together in an ancient liturgy. You can download the liturgy for the Prayer of Psalms HERE.

And what the Agpeya, that is the name of the liturgy of the Prayer of Psalms, is all about, is explained in the following video.

The duration of the Prayer of Psalms varies according to the reading pace of each person. But in all, it goes no longer than 30 minutes.

Yes, that’s even encouraged. For this, you should be in the meeting about five minutes earlier so that the prayer leader can assign you to the reading via chat.

For this you can find the liturgy for the Prayer of Psalms HERE. It is recommended to print out the liturgy in the appropriate language instead of reading it from your smartphone. It’s less distracting.

Since the whole thing is done online with the help of a zoom meeting and it is intended that as many as possible participate in the reading of the Psalms, there are two things to keep in mind.

  1. If you do not wish to participate in the reading of the psalms, you must indicate this in the display name, for example by adding the following after the display name “not reading”. This way, the prayer leader knows that nothing will be assigned to that person for reading. HERE you will find an explanation of how to change the display name.
  2. When it is your turn to read or pray, turn on your microphone. However, if you are not praying or reading, please put yourself on mute. please put yourself on mute. HERE you will be shown where to mute yourself.

The prayer will be bilingual in German and English. When it’s your turn to pray a psalm, you can simply say it in your preferred language.

For most, this form of prayer will be somewhat new. So you do not need to worry.
